Well the 58’s got started and things look very close for all the teams. Last night went like this as we played 4 practice games.
Game #1 – 6 pm * 1st Choice 14 & Wossamotti-U 13. On the night for 1st Choice it was the batting for them. Daryl Austin 3/3, Raul Para 2/4, Bob Stidham 1/3, Tom Stockwell 2/3, Ronnie Rustigian 2/3, Randy Welk 1/3, Ted Villarreal 2/3, Manny Ponce 1/3, John Phillips 0/3 and Gabe Chavarin 0/3. For Wossamotti-U it was Richard Perkins ¾, Robert Allen ¼, Charlie Oren 2/3, Tony Burts 2/3, Ric Hernandez 3/3, Manuel Lombera 1/3, Art Adishian 3/3, Tony Vasquez 3/3, Don Olson 1/3, and Ed Lauderdale 0/3.
1st Choice had to hold off Wossamott-U in the bottom of the open inning after they scored 3 runs to pull within one rune as the inning ended with a double play.
Game # 2 – 7 pm* Sherian Investments 15 & Diamond Kings 8. On the night for Sherian it was the following at the plate. Manny Marcial 2/4, Manuel Santoyo 4/4, Terry Gerhardstien ¾, Brian Green ½, Jorge Villarreal 2/3, Bruce Nieman 1/3, John Hernandez 3/3, Granville Alcorn 1/3, pick up player John Coronado 1/3. Meantime for the Diamond Kings it was Jonathon Yoshida 2/3, Greg Perez 2/3, Ken Blocki 2/3, Tom Thatcher 2/3, Don Westbrook 2/3, Ruben Rios 2/2, Bill Svoboda 3/3, Julian Perez 1/2, C R Ramirez 0/3 and pickup player Richard Perkins 1/3. Sherian is looking like the team to beat this season as they plated a bunch of runs in a 7 run victory.
Game # 3 – 8 m * Party Time 4 & Fighting Dogs 5. With the following batting for PTR Vince Garza 2/4, Darrel Castleman3/4, Gary Gomes 2/3, Ron Kirby 2/3, Coy Strunk 0/3, Jerry Sandquist 1/3, Tom Casagrande 1/3, Ike Pursell 1/2 and pickup players Manuel Santoyo 2/3 and Ken Smith 1/3. This was a replay of last year as PTR out hit the other team, but fell short by one run again. For the Fighting Dogs it was Rolando Villarreal 0/1, Curtis Ursenbach 0/3, Bruce Hibbard 1/2 , Mike Martinazzi 1/2 , Scott Cornwell 0/1 , Brad Wells 2/2 , Art Alvarez 0/2 , Judi Alvarez 1/1 , Derek Dowdell 0/2 , Gene Perry 1 / 2, and Frank Cervantez 0/2. Fighting Dogs plated 4 runs in the 2nd and added 1 in 4th. PTR ran themselves out of 3 bases loaded innings by hitting into some strange double plays.

It was the bats of Wes Scheibly 1/4 , John VanBuskirk 3/3 , Paul Verellen 1 / 2 , Mike Runge 1 / 3 , Tom Gray 1 / 4 , Jeff Jaech 1/3 , Bob Rauh 3 / 3 , Darin Tarvin 2 / 3 , Bill Eurich 1/3 and pickup player Scott Cornwell 2/3. For the Misfits it was the bats of Todd Acosta 3 / 4 , Joe Benitez 2/4, Patrick Speirs 4/4, John Coronado 3/4 , Fred Spenhoff 1 / 4 , Tony Buelna 2/4 , Ken Smith 2 / 3 , Fred Raund 1/3 , Ken Baker 0/3 , and Robert Cruz 1 / 3 . Another one run game on the night and it took the Misfits getting a walk off 3 run home run from Tony Buelna to score the winning run.
Again things look to be pretty even in the 58’s this season and if we ever get to play ball it should be lots of fun and friendships.
