MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT BRAD WELLS . . . .
Coming Together after a Lost Season
We are on the brink of returning to play after losing an entire year to Covid-19. No doubt we all missed playing the game, but more so, we missed coming together as an FSSL family for the camaraderie and the positive benefits of socializing with each other.
I also don’t want to forget those we lost over this last year plus, and those players and their families who suffered significant health or financial problems. We are hoping for better days.
One of the many challenges faced last year included the ability to carry out the duties of the FSSL Board. Like everyone else, the circumstances faced were unprecedented. We struggled with how and where to conduct meetings, including some of us reluctantly learning how to Zoom. It was not business as usual. Like many of us, FSSL was impacted by the constant changes from state and local authorities, including the impact of our lease agreement with the City of Fresno.
One of the challenges faced dealt with the structure of the Board itself. Normally, nominations for the Board would take place in the fall season, with voting to follow, and finally results announced at the annual meeting (Christmas Party). Obviously, we had no fall season, and no practical ability to seek nominations and conduct voting. And of course, we had to cancel the Christmas Party, so no annual meeting could be conducted. As a result, a decision was made to rollover current Board members. This practice allows for decision-making to continue until normal elections can be conducted. At the most recent Board meeting, Paul Sanchez was named the Nomination Committee chair for the upcoming year.
I want to thank everybody for their patience and hope we can all come together as the season ramps up. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to the Board directly. Thanks again and PLAY BALL!
